The Browns have re-signed offensive lineman Billy Yates, an unrestricted free agent who spent 2009 in Cleveland, the team announced on Thursday afternoon.
The Browns signed Yates during the second week of the 2009 regular season and he played in seven games. Yates never started for the Browns, but retaining him became a higher priority after the team lost offensive linemen Hank Fraley and Rex Hadnot in free agency.
Yates played for the Miami Dolphins in 2003 and for the New England Patriots from 2004 to 2008.
