Buccaneers already sign Jameis Winston

The labor deal that was signed in 2011 made it easier than ever to sign rookie draft picks. The Buccaneers proved how easy it can be on Friday, agreeing to terms with quarterback Jameis Winston.

G.M. Jason Licht said Friday that the Buccaneers already have a contract in place with their first-round pick, even before they make their second-round pick.

There’s not much to negotiate in these contracts. Players should insist on getting their deals things done right out of the gates; as the Bucs have shown, it’s incredibly simple. Every team should do it, and no drafted player should show up for a single offseason workout without that four-year commitment in place.
