The Buccaneers didn’t wait long to sign a replacement for right tackle Demar Dotson after Dotson sprained his MCL during the team’s first preseason game of the year.

Veteran Gosder Cherilus was in for a visit on Monday and he won’t be leaving Tampa. According to multiple reports, Cherilus has signed a two-year deal with the team.

Cherilus spent the last two years with the Colts, but was released by the team last month after having a knee scope during the offseason. Cherilus was a 2008 first-round pick and played for the Lions in his first five NFL seasons. He visited with both the Lions and Bills after getting dropped by Indianapolis, but no deal materialized for him until the Bucs lost a starter from their offensive line.

Cherilus will likely step in for Dotson on the right side while second-round pick Donovan Smith works on the left side of the line. The Bucs are looking for improved play up front this season, a task that will be made harder since Dotson was the team’s best blocker last year.
