Buccaneers running back Cadillac Williams is off to a dreadful start this season, with just 139 yards on 55 carries, for a 2.5-yard average. As a result, the Bucs’ coaches have decided to reduce his role on the offense.
And Williams has no problem with that.
Asked about the Bucs giving more carries to backup running backs LeGarrette Blount and Kareem Huggins, Williams said he thinks it makes sense.
“I think in ways it is good to get the young guys up to par,” Williams said, per PewterReport.com. “For down the stretch to get them in the game more. You know me, I’m here but basically just whatever.”
Although Williams is still first on the depth chart, he seems to realize that the Bucs’ coaching staff doesn’t see him as the featured back anymore.
“I mean you can tell where the team is heading,” Williams said. “It is not like they came to me. You can just tell how things are heading.”
And where the Bucs are heading is toward younger running backs, and away from Williams.
