After initially holding out hope they could get first-rounder Jonathan Cooper back later this year, the Cardinals realized that wasn’t happening.

The team announced they put the seventh overall pick on season-ending injured reserve, among other transactions today.
“Based on the medical prognosis and weighing all of the other factors, we decided that placing him on IR made the most sense for the team and for Jonathan,” General Manager Steve Keim said in a release provided by the team. " Knowing his work ethic and commitment, we have no doubt Jonathan will come out of this experience fully ready to be a key contributor next season and for many more beyond that.”

They also released the following 13 players, getting the roster to 61 in advance of tomorrow’s deadline to reach 53: Defensive tackle David Carter, safety Jonathon Amaya, guard Chilo Rachal, safety Curtis Taylor, wide receiver Mike Thomas, wide receiver Charles Hawkins, center Adam Bice, wide receiver Dan Buckner, tight end Alex Gottlieb, guard Senio Kelemete, linebacker Zack Nash, linebacker Colin Parker and tight end Richard Quinn.
