Carolina’s offense has gone 0-for-42 this preseason

Jets and Cowboys fans have been complaining about their team’s offenses. The Dolphins, Chiefs, and Giants have certainly looked rusty at times.

None of them can match the marathon of futility the Panthers offense has embarked upon this month.

Scott Fowler of the Charlotte Observer points out that the Panthers offense has started 42 offensive possessions during the preseason. They’ve yet to score a touchdown.

DeAngelo Williams was running on Saturday night behind the first team offensive line, and he only put up 13 yards on nine carries. Matt Moore hasn’t looked awful, but he’s missed a few key throws. The personnel around him looks overmatched.

Sure, Jonathan Stewart and Steve Smith haven’t been out there. But that points out Carolina’s weakness: Their skill position depth ranks among the worst in football.

The Panthers threaten to have a very good defense this year and could make a surprise run to the playoffs. They will probably need to score some offensive touchdowns to do that.
