Cedric Benson looks good in return to Cincinnati
Cedric Benson didn’t get the 100 yards he was hoping for tonight.
But he might have done enough to earn something bigger — a starting job with the Packers.
Benson celebrated his return to Paul Brown Stadium with six carries for 38 yards. The local fans have seen him produce, as he’s coming off three straight 1,000-yard seasons with the Bengals.
Benson wasn’t even the Packers’ leading rusher — that was quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who had 52 yards on six attempts, often roaming free on what you’d call a scramble if it was more urgent.
But Benson ran well early on for Green Bay, and on a roster where the next-best veteran bet is James Starks, there’s a chance for him to make the job his own.
Starks is out with a turf toe injury which could open the door, and Benson appears capable of doing all the running the Packers really need (which frankly isn’t much).
