Last week, Chargers G.M. A.J. Smith wisely refrained from blaming his team’s 2-2 start on injuries.
“Everybody gets hurt in the National Football League,” Smith said. “If not early, then late, or in the playoffs. You do the best you can. Deal with it.”
Still, as the Chargers prepare to play their first game since falling decisively (late comeback notwithstanding) in Pittsburgh, the Chargers are getting as healthy as they’ve been all year.
Linebacker Shawne Merriman has fully participated in both days of practice prior to Monday night’s game as his injured groin heals. Also participating fully on Thursday and Friday were defensive end Travis Johnson (groin), linebacker Shaun Phillips (calf), and punter Mike Scifres (groin).
Receiver Kassim Osgood missed practice Thursday with a back injury, but fully participated on Friday.
Linebacker Antwan Applewhite fully participated on Thursday, but took Friday off -- possibly due to an aggravation of the hamstring injury that has affected him since Week One. Center Nick Hardwick remains out with an ankle injury.
The Broncos are incredibly healthy, as evidenced by their 5-0 record.
Linebacker Spencer Larsen missed practice both days with a shoulder injury. Running back Correll Buckhalter (ankle) has participated fully in both days, and running back LaMont Jordan returned to action Friday after missing Thursday for non-injury reasons.
