Tuesday was a rough afternoon for 2010 third-round picks.
The Jaguars lost defensive tackle D’Anthony Smith to a torn achilles tenson, and now we’ve learned via Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune that the Chargers lost linebacker Donald Butler to the same injury.
Butler was expected to compete to start with Kevin Burnett at a relatively thin position for San Diego. The No. 79 overall pick in the draft, Butler was taken with one of the picks acquired in the Charlie Whitehurst-to-Seattle deal.
I picked San Diego as my AFC Super Bowl representative for our PFT magazine, and their defensive front seven was my biggest worry about the team. This news won’t help.
UPDATE: The team has announced that Butler will miss the entire season.
