When the Denver Broncos surged to a 6-0 start while the San Diego Chargers struggled out of the gate, it looked like Denver would cruise to an AFC West title.
It doesn’t look that way anymore.
The Chargers thoroughly dominated the Broncos in all phases of the game Sunday at Denver, winning the game and leapfrogging the Broncos in the AFC West standings. San Diego is now 7-3 while Denver is 6-4.
For the Chargers, Phillip Rivers was calmly efficient, completing 17 of 22 passes for 145 yards, with a touchdown and no interceptions.
For the Broncos, Chris Simms was benched after a bad start, and when Kyle Orton came in, he was hobbling around on a bad ankle. For the first time all season the Broncos are in second place, and if they want to get back into first, they’ll need a healthy Orton under center.
