The Chiefs had to spend big money to keep outside linebacker Justin Houston out of the market last year.
This year, a smaller commitment will enable his pass-rush partner to finish his career in Kansas City.
According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Chiefs have agreed to a three-year deal with outside linebacker Tamba Hali.
The 32-year-old is well off his prime, with just 12.5 sacks the last two seasons. But he’s still a valuable player against the run, as they groom Dee Ford for a bigger role in the future.
It also gives the Chiefs another 24 hours or so to work on a long list of their own free agents, specifically linebacker Derrick Johnson and cornerback Sean Smith, who might be half to keep now that they’ve franchise-tagged safety Eric Berry and held onto Hali.
