Childress: Favre in walking boot, has stress fracture

Minnesota’s loss to Green Bay Sunday night will be costly in more ways than one.

Vikings coach Brad Childress revealed at his press conference Monday that Brett Favre is in a walking boot. An MRI revealed Favre has two fractures in his ankle: an avulsion fracture and stress fracture. They will not require surgery.

It’s worth noting the injuries can’t be overly devastating, because Childress wouldn’t rule anything out about Favre’s status this week, calling him “day to day.”

Asked if Favre has to practice for a chance to play against the Patriots, Childress indicated most players have to practice to play. Childress said Favre wouldn’t necessarily get more leeway than anyone else in deciding his status. The coach isn’t worried about Favre’s starting streak.

“We have to do what’s right for Minnesota Vikings,” Childress said.

That may not include Favre this week. (Although we’ll believe Favre is sitting when Tarvaris Jackson lines up under center, and not before.)
