Tennessee’s first full squad player-only workout started Wednesday didn’t include fans, but it did feature the organization’s best player.
Chris Johnson was among the 40 players in attendance at the session, according to Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean and Terry McCormick of Titans Insider. Wyatt says some of Johnson’s teammates were pleasantly surprised to see him.
After skipping OTA work last offseason while in a contract dispute, Wyatt writes that Chris Johnson has said he’ll be there when training camp starts this year. He says he’ll leave the rest to his agent.
“I’m not worried about that right now to be honest,” Johnson said. “On my mind is being in shape and being ready with the lockout is over with. I want to get better, and get the team better as a whole. We haven’t been to the playoffs in two years.”
While it was a mostly-Titans affair Wednesday, some other NFL players like Derrick Mason, Golden Tate, and Patrick Turner were also practicing. (They lived in the area.)
In a statement that could make Titans fans cringe no matter how temporary the setup is, Rusty Smith took the initial first-team snaps ahead of Jake Locker and Brett Ratliff.
