Colts shut down Sorgi

If/when the Colts rest starting quarterback Peyton Manning, Jim Sorgi won’t be taking the snaps.

The team announced that Sorgi has been placed on injured reserve with a shoulder injury.

And this gives rise to an obvious question: How in the hell did a guy who never plays hurt his shoulder?

Rookie Curtis Painter, a sixth-round draft pick from Purdue, becomes the primary backup. Next up is former University of Buffalo quarterback Drew Willy, who joined the practice squad in place of Shane Boyd, who was cut from the practice squad.

The Colts have filled Sorgi’s roster spot with offensive tackle Michael Toudouze.

And it’s not as if Sorgi never plays. During his six years in the NFL, Sorgi has thrown 156 passes, completing 99. He has thrown six touchdowns and one interception, for a passer rating of 89.9.

More importantly, Sorgi owns one more Super Bowl ring than Dan Marino, Dan Fouts, Fran Tarkenton, and Warren Moon, combined.
