The 2015 experiment worked well enough to make it something more than that.
The NFL’s Competition Committee has proposed making permanent last year’s change in the one-point try after a touchdown from the two to the 15. If at least 24 owners approve that move, the rule change will remain in effect until at least 24 owners vote to get rid of it.
As part of the proposal, the defensive team would score two points if a blocked PAT or turnover on a one- or two-point try is returned to the other end zone.
Last year, the proposal was adopted as a temporary measure, which means that absent a new rule the pre-2015 approach would be reinstated.
