A recent visit to doctors for an evaluation of his surgically-repaired right foot concluded with doctors clearing Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant to get on the practice field for the first time this offseason.

A full return to work is almost certainly going to wait until training camp, though. Bryant did individual drills at OTAs on Tuesday, but was only a participant in the walkthrough portion of work on Wednesday. Coach Jason Garrett explained the plan for what’s left of the team’s offseason program.

“We’re just going to be deliberate with our players,” Garrett said, via the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “Anybody who’s coming off an injury, we’ve just got to make sure we’re deliberate in bringing them back. Dez did some individual work [Tuesday]. He was really good his first day back. We backed him off of that [Wednesday]. He was involved in some of the walk-through stuff, and we’ll have a similar schedule for him next week. We’ll bump him up if we feel like we want to, but we don’t anticipate him practicing fully at all in the minicamp. Hopefully, he will get some productive work in.”

Because of injuries and Bryant’s contract negotiations last season, Bryant and quarterback Tony Romo have worked together sparingly since the end of the 2014 season. Training camp will give them some extended time together to make sure that any rust is knocked off because their joint return to form is crucial to Cowboys hopes this year.
