Curran: Vikings closing the door of Favre

Some of you already have raised the possibility that Brett Favre’s decision to stay retired is the latest example of Favre’s “for now"-style statements, and that he’ll change his mind in a week or two and join the Vikings.

Tom Curran just called me and said that the feeling in the organization in the wake of Favre’s call to coach Brad Childress is that the door has closed.

“It’s over,” Curran said.

We all should only be so lucky for that to be true.

Meanwhile, FOX’s Jay Glazer reports that Childress has begun the process of calling players to inform them of the news.

“I just got off the phone with Brad, and Brett said he’s staying retired,” defensive end Jared Allen told Glazer. “He said he couldn’t deal with the daily grind. He said he felt like he let us down before it got started.

“You know what, we were never really sure he was coming anyway, so we’ve always backed up Tarvaris [Jackson] and Sage [Rosenfels]. We feel we can win with the guys we have here. I’m glad it’s over.”

Again we should all be so lucky for that to be true.
