We’ve got plenty of opinions regarding Thursday’s surprisingly defiant press conference from Texans linebacker Brian Cushing.
For now, we’ll raise only a question. Would the 18 AP voters who submitted Cushing’s name as the defensive rookie of the year in a revote have done so if Cushing had conducted his press conference before the voting closed on Wednesday at noon?
Given the manner in which many have reacted to Cushing’s defiance, it’s safe to say that his statement would have at least been a factor -- and that it could have prompted enough of the pro-Cushing voters to take a different approach.
Our point for now is that Cushing was smart to defer his comments until after the ink was dry on the second set of ballots.
