Cutler says Martz’s offense is “not more complicated”
There’s been talk in Chicago this offseason that new Bears offensive coordinator Mike Martz has a particularly difficult system to learn, and that quarterback Jay Cutler will have his hands full learning the full playbook by September.
But Cutler says Martz’s offense isn’t any tougher to learn than any other system he’s played in.
“Anytime you get a new system, it’s going to be complicated,” Cutler said, per Sean Jensen of the Chicago Sun-Times. “It’s different from everything everyone is used to. It’s just a different system. It’s not more complicated. It’s not harder.”
That said, Cutler reiterated that he hopes to get a little tutoring from the quarterback who had the most success playing for Martz, Kurt Warner.
“He’s reached out,” Cutler said of Warner. “We’ve exchanged a text or two, but I’ll probably wait until after the summer, until I can digest everything and really great my own take on it and then talk to him. But everything that everyone has said about the system that has been in it and been successful is that they love it and I can see why. It’s very quarterback friendly, and it puts you in a position to be very good.”
