D.J. Fluker suffers another concussion in practice

Games are physical enough, but NFL practices are far from safe.

The latest example of that is Chargers guard D.J. Fluker.

According to Michael Gehlken of the San Diego Union-Tribune, Fluker was held out of practice today after suffering a concussion in practice Wednesday.

It’s his third concussion in three seasons, and none of them have come in games.

That’s not to say the Chargers are doing anything excessive during the week, but the coincidence should bring more scrutiny to how brain injuries actually happen. While the big hits delivered over the middle of the field are obvious suspects, the years of smaller, repetitive blows such as linemen clanging against each other can’t be good for one’s head either.
