Darren Sharper gets $1.5 million base, $75,000 bonus

We noted this morning that Darren Sharper turned down more money from the Jacksonville Jaguars in order to stay in New Orleans. Now we know how much the Saints are paying him.

Jason La Canfora of NFL Network reports that Sharper will make a $1.5 million base salary, and that his signing bonus is $75,000.

La Canfora also says Sharper can make an additional $1 million in incentives; it’s not clear what he’ll need to do to earn that.

For a safety who’s coming off a nine-interception season and who played a big part in helping the Saints win the Super Bowl, Sharper’s contract doesn’t seem like a lot of money. On the other hand, for a 34-year-old coming off microfracture surgery, it’s not too bad a deal at all.
