DeAngelo Williams sits out practice Friday, questionable for Week Two
One of the Panthers’ primary options in the running game has missed another day of practice.
Tailback DeAngelo Williams (thigh) did not take part in the club’s Friday workout, David Newton of ESPN.com reported. Williams also missed Thursday’s practice with the injury.
If Williams can’t play Sunday vs. Detroit, Jonathan Stewart would get the start at tailback, with fullback Mike Tolbert possibly also seeing an uptick in carries. The Panthers also have tailback Fozzy Whittaker in reserve.
The 31-year-old Williams rushed for 72 yards on 14 carries in the Panthers’ season-opening win at Tampa Bay last Sunday. A ninth-year pro from Memphis, Williams is one of the NFL’s most experienced tailbacks. He has played his entire career with the Panthers.
UPDATE 12:52 p.m. ET: Williams is questionable for Sunday’s game, the Panthers said.
