Cowboys running back DeMarco Murray is disappointed in himself for losing three fumbles in the Cowboys’ first three games, but he’s not going to change much as a result.
Murray says he just happens to have been hit in the wrong spot at the wrong times and dropped three balls, but he doesn’t think he has to make any major changes.
“It’s been different angles, just different things happened – kind of bad luck,” Murray said. “I don’t stress too much over those things. Obviously, I’m upset about what happened, but I’ve got to move on and have a short memory about it.”
No one likes to hear a player sound like he’s downplaying his mistakes, but there may be some truth to what Murray is saying: Last year he only fumbled three times in 217 carries, so fumbling three times in 75 carries this year is an anomaly. Murray has also had bad luck about the way his fumbled footballs have bounced this year. Last season the balls Murray dropped bounced the right way for the Cowboys, and he only lost one of his three fumbles. This year the Cowboys have lost all three of his fumbles.
Murray did acknowledge that there might be some things he could stand to change about the way he holds the ball. But mostly, what Murray needs to change is his luck.
