Jaguars running back Denard Robinson avoided any immediate charges after driving his car into a retention pond over the July 4 weekend, but the Jacksonville Sheriff later asked for a second look into how Robinson wound up asleep behind the wheel of a sinking car.

That further investigation has led to a careless driving citation for Robinson issued by the same officer who determined that Robinson wasn’t intoxicated at the time of the accident, although the decision to issue it came from above.

“The decision to have a citation issued for careless driving was made by the Sheriff [Mike Williams] after his review of the reports,” a spokeswoman said, via the Florida Times-Union. “Mr. Robinson should have been issued a citation that night, because he lost control of his vehicle.”

The sheriff’s office said that an investigation into the response by the officers on scene has not concluded. Robinson’s attorney said his client accepted the citation, which comes with a fine.
