After Lamar Miller left in free agency, C.J. Anderson couldn’t be pried away from Denver and Chris Johnson chose to stay in Arizona, the Dolphins are exploring other means to acquire a veteran running back.
The Miami Herald reports that the Dolphins have had trade talks with multiple teams about bringing in a running back.
At the moment, second-year running back Jay Ajayi is atop the Dolphins’ depth chart, but Dolphins coach Adam Gase says his offense works best with more than one option at the position.
“We’re looking to having more than one guy,” Gase said. “Jay is going to be a big part of what we’re doing. I’d like to have multiple backs. Right now, we don’t have a lot of guys on the roster. I think we only have three guys on the roster right now. We’re going to need to really develop that stable of backs. Options will present themselves. We just need to stay patient, whether it’s through the draft or somebody gets cut free or there’s somebody else out there that we need to take a look at.”
No specific names have been mentioned of running backs the Dolphins might acquire in a trade.
