Apparently, beating the Giants yesterday was huge for interim-for-a-week Eagles coach Pat Shurmur, because it earned him a chance at the permanent job.

According to Tom Pelissero of USA Today, Shurmur is interviewing for the position today.

He’s the second in-house candidate to sit with owner Jeff Lurie, along with running backs coach Duce Staley (who satisfied the Rooney Rule and thus green-lights them to hire anyone at any time).

Shurmur was 9-23 in two years with the Browns (.281), but he HAS NEVER LOST as Eagles head coach, so maybe they ought to hire him.

The 50-year-old Shurmur spent 10 years as an Eagles assistant previously (1999-2008), before coming back in 2013 as Chip Kelly’s offensive coordinator.
