It’s a done deal.

Chip Kelly has reversed course back from Oregon to become the new head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles. The team released a statement confirming the news on Wednesday afternoon.

“Chip Kelly will be an outstanding head coach for the Eagles,” said owner Jeffrey Lurie in the statement. “He has a brilliant football mind. He motivates his team with his actions as well as his words. He will be a great leader for us and will bring a fresh energetic approach to our team.”

According to the statement, Kelly continued to evaluate the opportunity to jump to the NFL after announcing that he’d be returning to the college ranks. We’ll have to wait until a press conference or other public statements from Kelly for more information about why he had the change of heart after his flirtation with the Eagles and Browns early in the process didn’t lead anywhere.

The Eagles said that such a press conference will be forthcoming, although they don’t have one scheduled as of yet.
