Chip Kelly is putting together a crowded backfield in Philadelphia.

The Eagles have announced the signing of running back Ryan Mathews, and they still plan to sign running back DeMarco Murray, according to multiple reports.

The Mathews signing was reported yesterday, but when news broke that the Eagles had an offer out to Murray, it appeared that the Mathews deal could be off. Now, from all indications, both Mathews and Murray are going to play for the Eagles.

Mathews is coming off a season in which he had 74 carries for 330 yards for the Chargers before suffering a Week Six injury. Murray was the NFL’s Offensive Player of the Year last year and will be the No. 1 back in the crowded backfield.

The Eagles also have running back Darren Sproles on the roster, and they have a $1.6 million tender offer for restricted free agent running back Chris Polk.

Apparently Kelly loves running backs.
