The Eagles special teams were a big reason why they came up with a win in New England last Sunday and they have done their part to help the cause again this week.
Bryan Braman fell on a loose ball after Bills returner Marcus Thigpen muffed a catch in the second quarter, setting the Eagles up with the ball in Buffalo territory. A couple of penalties pushed them back across midfield, but Sam Bradford and first-round pick Nelson Agholor were still able to hook up on a 53-yard touchdown that pushed the Eagles lead to 14-7. It was the first touchdown catch of Agholor’s career.
Buffalo would drive for a field goal to cut the score to 14-10 after Agholor’s score, but they couldn’t move the ball on their final possession of the half and left the Eagles time to drive for another field goal. Bradford finished the half 16-of-22 for 139 yards and their three-headed backfield put up 63 yards on 13 carries. DeMarco Murray got three of them and Ryan Mathews took seven to lead the team.
The Bills have to feel disappointed for trailing at halftime of a game that’s seen them outgain the Eagles. Tyrod Taylor has hit on a couple of big pass plays and LeSean McCoy has run the ball well, but those things haven’t added up to enough points to this point in the proceedings. Six penalties haven’t helped that cause, continuing a frequent problem for the Bills this season on a day when they really need to find their way to a win.
