Easy call: Texans pick up fifth-year option on Hopkins

The Texans have exercised the fifth-year option the contract on wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins, the Houston Chronicle reported Friday.

The option locks Hopkins in for 2017 at $7.915 million, though it’s likely he and the Texans will work to secure a long-term extension that will be worth significant money for one of the game’s best young receivers.

Hopkins has 19 touchdown receptions in three seasons and had a career-best 11 touchdowns last season. The Texans see him continuing to ascend and produce after they signed Brock Osweiler to be their starting quarterback in March.

Hopkins turns 24 in June. He’s caught 239 passes for 3,533 yards in his first three seasons.

Teams have until May 2 to pick up fifth-year options on 2013 first-round picks. PFT is tracking all the fifth-year options here.
