Eagles left guard Evan Mathis missed seven games this season because of a knee injury, but that isn’t going to stop him from heading to the Pro Bowl.
Mathis has been added to the roster for the game as a replacement for Saints guard Jahri Evans, who has pulled out of the game after having surgery. Mathis will be heading to the Pro Bowl for the second straight season and will join two other members of the Eagles offensive line in Glendale for the game.
Left tackle Jason Peters and center Jason Kelce are the others and the Eagles now have six Pro Bowlers altogether. Kelce also made it despite missing a large chunk of time because of injury and the Eagles dealt with constant absences up front a year after having the entire offensive line together for all 16 games.
Evans’s agent Jerrold Colton wouldn’t say what kind of surgery Evans had, although he did say, via Mike Triplett of ESPN.com, that Evans played through the injury during the regular season. He also said that Evans will be ready to go when the Saints start their offseason workouts.
