Fans donate money to “Carson Palmer Thrust Fund”

The various rights possessed by all Americans include the right to spend hard-earned (or otherwise) money on whatever stupid or dubious or unworthy cause they choose.

Enter Cardinals quarterback Carson Palmer and his crotch chop from last Sunday night’s win over the Seahawks.

Arizona Sports 98.7 FM, the radio broadcast partner of the Arizona Cardinals, has launched a crowdfunding effort to raise the money to pay for Palmer’s $11,576 fine for unsportsmanlike conduct. Seriously.

It’s called the “Carson Palmer Thrust Fund.” Seriously.

So far, a total of 222 people have donated a total of $2,139 toward the effort. Seriously.

NFL rules prohibit others from paying a player’s fines, so Palmer likely won’t be able to accept the money. Even if he were, Palmer presumably would donate the cash to charity.

Meanwhile, if CBS Radio in Detroit had launched similar efforts to pay for the various fines and lost game checks incurred by Ndamukong Suh during his time with the Lions, maybe WXYT would still have the contract to broadcast the team’s games on the radio.
