Redskins linebacker London Fletcher has appeared in 231 consecutive games. It was, until Bucs cornerback Ronde Barber took the field tonight, the longest current streak for any active player in the NFL.
Fletcher’s clock could be re-set to zero this weekend, due to a hamstring injury and a balance problem that has him on the injury report with a head injury.
On Thursday, coach Mike Shanahan received multiple questions from reporters regarding whether Fletcher suffered a concussion.
Shanahan said that Fletcher currently isn’t in the league’s concussion program. “He’s being evaluated so he can find out if he should go in the concussion program,” Shanahan said. “We don’t know. It’s a balance issue and we’re doing everything we can to find out where he’s at. That’s why he’s been taking tests here for about the last six or seven hours.”
Fletcher hasn’t practiced this week. On Friday, the Redskins will apply one of the various labels regarding his availability for Sunday’s game at Pittsburgh. And maybe he’ll be officially diagnosed with a concussion.
