Based on a conversation the last week of the season with General Manager Trent Baalke, 49ers running back Frank Gore assumed he had a job with the team next season.
But the lack of contact since then has Gore wondering if the team still loves him the way they did before.
Via Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com, Gore shared his doubts on Instagram this weekend, after apparently not getting a card from the team.
“I know the fans love me but I need to know if the management does but I’m going to love my fans no matter what,” he wrote.
Gore turns 32 in May, but has remained productive, and is the leading rusher in franchise history. But he’s probably not going to match the $6.45 million he made the last two seasons, with Kendall Hunter and Carlos Hyde around to take bigger roles if need be.
“You have to look at the situation,” Baalke said previously. “Frank is going to want to discuss his role, and what that role is going to be moving forward. What is the contract itself going to look like? We can both want each other’s company, but to make that happen, there are hurdles that are going to have to be crossed.”
And when teams and agents meet this week in Indianapolis, it will be the first chance to gauge the height of that hurdle.
