Broncos coach Gary Kubiak is promising to get new tight end Vernon Davis more involved in the offense.
Which is good, because Davis could hardly be less involved than he was in his first game as a Bronco, when he was limited to half a dozen snaps and no catches. Obviously, that wasn’t what Kubiak had in mind when the Broncos traded for Davis, but Kubiak said Davis’s limited playing time was largely because the Broncos fell behind early and had to play no-huddle most of the game, and Davis doesn’t know the offense well enough yet to know all of Peyton Manning’s calls at the line.
“Yeah, he’s definitely going to play more,” Kubiak said of Davis. “We got down and got into some hurry-up verbiage at the line of scrimmage. Those are the things that he wasn’t up with us on, so that’s why he kind of got the lost [snaps] there at times. He’s much more available this week from the standpoint of what he knows.”
Davis sounded unconcerned about his lack of playing time.
“It’s just about being patient and getting the work done to be ready,’’ Davis said.
Davis is ready to do a lot more tomorrow against the Chiefs.
