At the rate the Giants are going at running back, Brandon Jacobs might not be the only old face to make a return to the team this season.
Joe Morris, Rodney Hampton and others could be needed since the Giants were down to one healthy running back at Monday’s practice. Dan Graziano of ESPN.com reports that Jacobs sat out the session with a wrap on his left leg, although there’s been no word about a specific injury plaguing the veteran. David Wilson is in Los Angeles for another opinion on his injured neck and Da’Rel Scott injured his hamstring in last Thursday’s loss to the Bears.
That left seventh-round pick Michael Cox as the only man standing in the backfield for the Giants. Andre Brown is eligible to come off injured reserve in a few weeks, but the team may need to make another move to shore up the position between now and then.
Whoever does run the ball for the Giants could have center David Baas back opening holes for them. Baas, who has missed three games with a neck injury, practiced on Monday and could be available against the Vikings next Monday night.
UPDATE 11:50 a.m. ET: Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News reports that coach Tom Coughlin said Jacobs also injured his hamstring. The team hopes to have him back at practice on Thursday.
