Bears wide receiver Sam Hurd was allegedly a bigtime drug dealer in Chicago. And he’s hired a bigtime lawyer to defend him against federal drug trafficking charges.

Sean Jensen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports that Hurd has hired L.A.-based attorney David Kenner to represent him. Kenner successfully defended Snoop Dogg (back when he was Snoop Doggy Dogg) against a murder charge.

Kenner kept alive the undefeated streak of a defense lawyer saying his client is innocent.

“This isn’t the first time that the initial report looks damning. But as cases move forward, things can change dramatically,” Kenner said.

Hurd, who appeared in court Thursday, faces up to 40 years in jail. He will remain in custody at least one more night according to the Chicago Tribune.

UPDATE: A judge ordered that Hurd will have to stand trial in Texas.
