Over the weekend, we shared some word from Miami that No. 13 overall pick Laremy Tunsil is still fighting to show the Dolphins that he’s ready to start at guard early in his rookie season.
There was a point this offseason when it seemed like Tunsil might be starting at tackle for the Titans after going first overall, but Tennessee’s trade with the Rams and Tunsil’s video-fueled draft night drop kept that from happening. The Titans wound up picking eighth overall and they took a different tackle in Jack Conklin, which seems to be working out well so far despite Conklin’s move to a new spot on the right side of the line.
“It’s gone pretty smoothly with Jack,” coach Mike Mularkey said, via the Tennessean. “You don’t say a lot to Jack. You’re not hearing his name called out a lot. He’s just very steady. He knows he’s got some time, not a lot, but I think he’s made the move over there pretty good.”
Offensive line work in the spring is a far cry from what Conklin will face when hitting is part of the program, but things would have to take a serious turn for the worse for someone else to be at right tackle come September. Conklin’s acquisition was part of a series of moves designed to make the Titans a more physical football team and it’s hard for that to happen if he’s on the bench.
