Jack Del Rio on NFLCA brief: No one on staff knew about it

J. DelRio1

A third coaching staff has come out publicly to say they don’t support the court brief filed last week by the NFL Coaches Association, which sided with the players.

“I checked with our guys and not one member of our coaching staff had knowledge of last week’s brief filed by the Coaches Association prior to the news breaking,” Del Rio told the Associated Press. “None were consulted or involved in any way. This action was taken without approval. Heck, it wasn’t even mentioned to any of us.”

The NFLCA has good intentions and assistant coaches could use the protection a union would provide. But the NFLCA isn’t a union and they don’t represent all NFL coaches, which has led to some embarrassing moments over the last week.

The Redskins and the Saints came out strongly against the statement. NFLCA chief Larry Kennan said he didn’t do a “good job at at communicating” with the Redskins staff.

It sounds like that problem was widespread.
