The Buccaneers beat the Falcons 31-24 last Sunday for their first season-opening win since 2012 and their first time winning on the road in Week One since 2005.
There was some good buzz about the Bucs heading into the season and players say they’ve noticed it pick up over the last few days as a result of the victory. They want to keep that building, but the fact that it’s just one week can’t be ignored.
Defensive tackle Gerald McCoy says it’s “great to feel like we’re turning that corner,” but says it will take 10 wins for him to get excited. Quarterback Jameis Winston didn’t put a number on it, but knows that it’s more than one.
“A lot of people looked down on us, but ... it’s just one game,” Winston said, via ESPN.com. “The same people that are praising us right now, if we lose by one point they’re going to be saying how bad we [stunk], so we’ve just got to keep getting better and we’ve got to keep improving, because that’s NFL football.”
This weekend brings a good road test for the Buccaneers as they travel to Arizona to face the Cardinals. The Cardinals lost to the Patriots at home last Sunday and two straight home losses is certainly something they’ll want to avoid to start a season that many feel has a lot of promise.
