Jason Witten not worried about Dez Bryant

The Cowboys and wide receiver Dez Bryant haven’t been able to reach agreement on a long-term deal to this point in the offseason, which means that Bryant has not been taking part in practice with the rest of the team’s veterans.

He has been around the team’s facility, however. Bryant was there Friday to talk to the team’s rookies and he’s met with head coach Jason Garrett, which has kept any acrimony from creeping into the relationship at this point. It’s also left tight end Jason Witten confident that Bryant will hit the ground running whenever he does return to practice.

“You’d love to have Dez there,” Witten said, via ESPN.com. “I think that would be great. Dez loves playing ball. He’s a great teammate. You miss him when he’s not out there because of the passion and the energy that he brings. ... “He’ll be there. He’s taking care of himself,” Witten said. “He’s going to be ready. It’s just part of the business. Hopefully it gets worked out. But if there’s going to be one guy that’s ready, it’s going to be Dez Bryant.”

There are several top-flight receivers looking for new deals right now with the Falcons expressing hope that they’ll reach an agreement with Julio Jones fairly soon. If they do, it might help move things along for Bryant but only if it happens before July 15.
