San Francisco 49ers owner Jed York has confirmed last week’s report that his team will be part of an effort to bid on Super Bowl L in the new stadium in Santa Clara, and he’s talking up the stadium that opens in two years as a perfect host.

I think it’s going to be an unbelievable venue -- not just for 49ers games but for everything from Super Bowls to soccer matches to concerts and college football,” York said at the stadium’s groundbreaking. “It’s going to be a great venue.”

The NFL is expected to announce the host cities for Super Bowl L (which takes place in February of 2016) and Super Bowl LI this year. The 49ers would love to have the 50th anniversary event, but if they miss out on that they’re confident they’ll get the next one.

“The way they’re doing the voting and bidding for the Super Bowls is putting 50 and 51 together, so we’ll put in bids for 50 and 51 and we’re hopeful we’ll get one of them,” York said.

The only time the Bay Area had the Super Bowl was 1985, when the 49ers beat the Dolphins at Super Bowl XIX at Stanford Stadium. The next three Super Bowls are in New Orleans, New York/New Jersey and Phoenix/Glendale.
