Randy Gregory’s stock plummeted in this year’s NFL draft before Jerry Jones’s Cowboys finally grabbed him with the 60th overall pick. Jones thinks his team got a steal.
“It’s easy to see his talent, very easy to see,” Jones said, via the Star-Telegram. “His willingness to take coaching from his teammates, as well as the coaches themselves – all of those things, you like. Those are intangibles.”
One of the questions teams had about Gregory is whether he’s too skinny to take on NFL offensive linemen. At the Combine Gregory measured at 6-foot-5 and 235 pounds, but Jones says Gregory is bulking up.
“I’m pleased that he’s gained the weight he’s gained,” Jones said. “I’m going to round this off, but I’d say he’s up 15 pounds. And he doesn’t labor in any way with that 15 pounds. He can lose it -- I’m envious -- he can lose it as fast as anybody that you can imagine, but he can also put it on. His diet – he’s doing some good stuff. He’s been very responsible.”
For his first two months in the league, at least, Gregory has done exactly what the Cowboys were hoping he’d do.
