The Cowboys have had some bad seasons in Jerry Jones’s time as their owner. They were 1-15 in 1989, the first year he owned the team. There were the three straight 5-11 seasons with Dave Campo as coach. Dallas had 6-10 seasons in the final years of Barry Switzer and Wade Phillips. Losing is not unknown to Jones.
But Jones says that this year, with the Cowboys at 3-8 after he thought they’d contend for a Super Bowl, is the furthest his team has ever fallen below his expectations.
“I don’t know when I’ve ever had diametrically opposite to the extent we have from where I thought we would be to where we are,” said Jones, via the Star-Telegram. “This was stunning this year for us to experience the injuries we have. I’m numb from it, really.”
Jones, however, still believes that the future in Dallas is bright. He thinks Tony Romo has a few good years left in him, and as long as Romo is healthy, Jones thinks the Cowboys are contenders. Even if this year is a huge disappointment.
