The greatest Cleveland Brown of them all thinks his old franchise is finally heading in the right direction.
Hall of Fame running back Jim Brown said on NFL Network that new coach Hue Jackson is the right kind of leader to make the Browns a great team, something they’ve rarely been called since Brown retired in 1965.
“It’s obvious once you’re here to see the great energy, the great participation and the attitude of coach Jackson,” Brown said. “I am very excited and very happy that he is here, and I’m looking forward to great things -- and I don’t say that too often, about too many people.”
Asked how big a difference a coach like Jackson can make, Brown answered, “In football? All the difference in the world.”
The Browns won eight championships in their first 19 seasons of existence but haven’t won one since. The 80-year-old Brown could be forgiven if there was ever a time when he thought he wouldn’t live to see the Browns win another championship, but he now believes the Browns are returning to excellence.
