Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh has yet to declare publicly that he’s not going to be the Rams coach. Privately, he has communicated that message to his team.

For whatever any message like that is ever worth.

Via Dan Murphy of ESPN, Harbaugh told his players on Monday that rumors linking him to the Rams job are “lies made up by our enemies.”

That’s a bit over the top, Jim. Then again, everything about Jim is at times a bit over the top. (And I like it.)

People are connecting dots and engaging in fair speculation. Harbaugh currently hasn’t been definitively linked to the job. However, if Rams owner Stan Kroenke were to decide to make a big splash with a proven winner, and if he were to offer to make Harbaugh the highest-paid coach in all of football, what would Harbaugh do?

It’s easy for Harbaugh to deny and dismiss speculation. His primary audience consists of a room full of players that he needs to keep focused through they play their bowl game.

After that, well, he would hardly be the first college coach to say one thing and do another.
