Linebacker Joe Mays has played for the Broncos and the Chiefs over the course of a seven-year NFL career and he might add another AFC West club to the list in 2015.
Alex Marvez of FOX Sports reported that Mays took a visit with the Chargers on Thursday. It’s the first visit we’ve heard about for Mays since he was released by the Chiefs in a cap-saving move just before the start of free agency.
Mays started last year on injured reserve/recall because of a wrist injury and wound up playing in eight games and making three starts for Kansas City in the second half of the season. Mays has spent his career stopping the run and early down work will likely remain his route toward playing time in 2015.
Donald Butler, Kavell Conner and Manti Te’o are already on hand at inside linebacker for the Chargers, who won’t have Reggie Walker back next season.
