The Broncos have added a tight end, but it isn’t one of Peyton Manning’s former Colts teammates.
Dallas Clark is a free agent and there have been reports of Denver interest in Jacob Tamme, the team has landed former Texans tight end Joel Dreessen. Dreessen told Fox 29 in Houston that he is “going to Broncos” via a text message on Friday. The Texans were making a push to bring Dreessen back, but the allure of playing with Manning and/or a better offer caused Dreessen to opt for the Broncos.
Dreessen had 28 catches for 353 yards and six touchdowns for the Texans last season. He’s been a strong complement for Owen Daniels over the last three seasons in Houston and played on almost 70 percent of the team’s offensive snaps last season.
It’s unknown if the Broncos are still in the market for more help at tight end. They have Julius Thomas, Cornelius Ingram and Virgil Green currently on the roster at that position so there’s probably room for Tamme or Clark if they decide to bring in a familiar face for Manning to throw to in 2012.
The Texans could move James Casey from fullback to tight end to take Dreessen’s spot or they could look for help outside the organization.
