Suspended Packers defensive lineman Johnny Jolly, who has been in jail since he was arrested on drug charges last month, pleaded guilty to narcotics charges today and was placed on probation for the next five years.
The Houston Chronicle reports that Jolly will start his probation with 90 days in a drug treatment center.
Jolly’s guilty plea is to a felony charge stemming from a 2008 arrest. As part of his plea deal, his charge from last month was dismissed. Both arrests were related to illegal possession of codeine.
Texas District Judge Denise Bradley put Jolly on deferred adjudication, which means the conviction will be erased from his record if he successfully completes his probation. But if his probation is revoked, Jolly could get up to 20 years in prison.
Jolly was suspended for the entire 2010 season. His attorney said he does not know how today’s guilty plea will affect Jolly’s status with the NFL.
