Bears wide receiver Josh Morgan has agreed to perform community service to have an assault charge dropped.
If Morgan completes 32 hours of community service within four months, the misdemeanor assault charge against him will be erased from his record, according to CSNWashington.com.
Days after he signed a contract with the Bears, Morgan was accused by a valet of assault. According to the victim, Morgan punched him for looking in the direction of a woman Morgan was accompanying.
“I was just standing there and I looked up, and in the blink of an eye he just punched me right in the mouth,” the victim said at the time. “Instantly my mouth is bleeding profusely, just blood coming out all over my jacket and stuff. I was scared. I didn’t know what to do. . . . It’s not fair for anybody to go around punching people just doing their job. I didn’t say anything disrespectful to the lady. I didn’t look at her or sexualize her in any way. I just looked in the direction and I got hit.”
For his part, Morgan claimed he never touched the man.
Morgan, who played the last two years in Washington, is expected to compete for the No. 3 receiver spot in Chicago.
